This morning started with a trip into town. We worked in the field to collect and test water samples. See how our watershed is fairing below. Our afternoon and evening consisted of an eco challenge. Each trail group worked together to craft an eco friendly plan for a building/business. Ideas included an arcade, animal shelter, water park and the Quicken Loans Arena.

Staff from the CVNP will be there to lead the meeting and answer questions. They are very experienced, and we are excited to have them. Don't forget, chaperone papers are due Monday. Dad's will get priority, so if you are a dad, please consider joining us! After we see who is volunteering, we will let everyone know how we will decide. Thanks! 3) Testing season is here. Please please please please please please please please send your child to school each day that they are not contagious. 5th grade will be testing Monday and Tuesday, and 4th grade Thursday and Friday (all are taking the Ohio State Test Language Arts Test parts 1 &2). It is SO important that students don't have to take the test during make-ups, statistically speaking students do not do as well when taking the tests through makeups. Thank you for your help in this matter! Our students will do great! :) Before winter break, Ms. Brier and I applied for the Cuyahoga County National Park Service "Google School of the Year". The 5th grade students and I discussed the application, and we were semi-hopeful. Imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail that we came in second! And then an even BIGGER surprise when I heard that first place had declined, and we are the "official" school of the year!
What does this mean?
We will be having a parent meeting with ALL the information, as well as staff from the conservancy soon. Notifications will go home and be posted here when that happens. This is a truly once in a lifetime experience! We hope that ALL students will join us! To read more about the program that students will be doing, please click here. We went to Cuyahoga Valley National Park today for the "Ways of the Whittlesey" program. The kids learned all about the prehistoric indian tribe that lived in the Cleveland area. They played games that Native American children might have played, practiced throwing with an atl atl (ask your student what that is!), and ground corn with sticks and rocks. On the way there, our bus broke down on 77, about 15 minutes from the park site. We waited for the bus far off the highway, with a police escort. During the wait, we saw a deer, and encouraged many a semi-truck to honk at us! Overall, it was an interesting day. All the kids were safe, the bus didn't break down on the way home, and all of the 4th graders got their passes that get them in free for one year into all the National Parks. Have a wonderful 3 day weekend, and don't forget about Spirit Week next week! -Ms. H & Ms. B Field Trip Forms Went home!On Friday, all students received field trip forms for their Hale Farm Trip. We will be travelling to Hale Farm on Friday, Oct. 14th, for their Fall Festival. Students will learn about Entrepreneurship, as well as experience the fun of a corn maze, apple cider and more!
