Your child will be bringing missing work reports home today. I do them to give everyone time to analyze and fix mistakes before grades become permanent. This a tool meant to start a conversation about good study habits, not "agents of torture" for students or parents 🙂 . Here are some things that might help you have a productive conversation regarding current work and grades.
You’ll find the overall grade bolded near the subject. The subheadings are meant to help students pick an area to focus improvement. You’ll notice homework is worth 10%, classwork is 35%, and tests/quizzes are 55%.
A (-) indicates no grades have been entered yet for the category.
*Missing work is at the bottom of the sheet. Missing work might fall into a few categories:
No name was on the paper!
Students who believe they turned in the work should check my NO NAME drawer in the classroom during bell work time or recess assistance. If found, they can add their name to it and then place it in the LATE WORK drawer.
Work has not actually been turned in.
Finished work can be placed in the LATE WORK drawer before the final due date on the sheet for full credit.
Work was lost!
This happens to everyone. I make a few extras for this reason. They can be found in the 4th and 5th EXTRA COPIES bins at the front of my room. If they have checked this bin carefully and no extras exist I sometimes make extra copies.
Special note: I cannot make extra copies of any “student book” pages in math or science because I have no extra textbooks. These CAN be printed online using our online textbooks. Students can stay in for a recess assistance if they need help doing this the first time.
*Late/Missing work is DUE 2 WEEKS from the time I ENTER IT INTO THE GRADEBOOK. After this time, work will be marked as a 0, and can no longer be accepted for credit.
*Please keep conversations positive. Learning is about making mistakes and FIXING them.
Special note: Students can expect to see their grades for late/missing work post around a week after putting them in the late drawer. I need to prioritize current work over late during my daily grading, but I try my hardest to update late/missing work as quickly as possible.
You’ll get missing reports periodically each quarter. If you have questions at anytime, please do not hesitate to email [email protected] or [email protected] .
Yours,
Ms. Brier
